I Know My Redeemer Lives - Devotion 4 - Monday Morning Devotions

Join us as Pastor Ricky Jacob, serving the Winnebago people in Nebraska, explores the life of Job and the truth of our Risen Lord.

Start at Week 1

He lives to grant me rich supply;
He lives to guide me with His eye;
He lives to comfort me when faint;
He lives to hear my soul’s complaint.

(Samuel Medley, 1783-1799, abr.)

Many of us have had the experience of having a best friend. A good friend is irreplaceable, or put another way, no one can put a price on the value of having someone whom you share your life experiences with. Yes, during great times and even through horrible times.

You can be yourself with your best friend. You can share your thoughts, maybe even your deepest secrets, your hopes, and your past failures or shameful experiences. A best friend can be counted on to be there for you and vice versa.

In our reflection on the words of our song for today - you can have such a friend in Jesus. Jesus wants so much to enrich your life. He has blessed you with talents and abilities. Some of these you might be tempted to take for granted as if everyone else is able to do what you do - only some can do it much better. Or so you might be led to believe. You are unique and your God-given talent is entrusted to you to be a blessing to others and not to be buried or not used.

Jesus lives to guide you much like a best friend who gives you a better perspective of the road you are heading down and where it will ultimately take you. Jesus wants to guide you on the path of life everlasting.

Jesus is also there when you go down the wrong path and seek His mercy and grace. Jesus is there when someone else hurts you, or your loved one and you are angry and cry out that He would come to your aid!

All along life’s journey, Jesus lives for you. Jesus is a prayer away. He is not seen with our eyes but His Spirit is always there, guiding, comforting, and offering a listening ear. Jesus is especially there when we think that we cannot go on. We might feel like a runner who has hit the proverbial wall and only want to STOP - to GIVE UP and then we somehow carry on and get that second wind. Jesus assists us to go on and on trusting in Him to see us through to the end, the victorious end!

Please pray with me: O God, in the paschal feast You restore all creation. Continue to send Your heavenly gifts upon Your people that they may walk in perfect freedom and receive everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
