As, in a royal progress, the nearer the king’s chariot the higher the rank, and they who ride just in front of him are the chiefest. It is also true that, the closer we are to Him, the more truly great we are. The highest dignity is to be His messenger. 

This Week in Native American News (6/8/18): Canoes, Celebrations, Roadtrips, and Flute Circles

1 John 4:21 tells us, “whoever loves God must also love his brother.” But that isn’t what Native peoples were taught. The boarding school experience, that resulted in rampant historic trauma, addiction, and social suffering, seems an odd way to say, “I love you, brother.”

By this concluding statement, Christ intended to remind them, that he who would adhere firmly and steadfastly to the faith of the Gospel must encounter obstacles, which will tend to interrupt the progress of faith. But we must continue to be strong in our faith.

This Week in Native American News (6/1/18): Correcting inaccurate narratives, celebrating Hawaii, and admiring Indigenous designs

Whether it comes in the form of violence, abuse, or neglect, trauma leaves an indelible mark on a person's life. Trauma changes a person's brain. But, we can begin to lead Native families out of the oppressive weight of trauma and into God's glorious light.

"Were I to get you rid of these doubts, others would come. There is a shorter way of destroying them. Let Christ be really to you the Son of God the Saviour. Do His will. His light will dispel the clouds, and His Spirit will lead you into all truth."
