Advent: Searching for a Savior - Friday, December 27

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him."

Matthew 2:1-2

In these verses, the Magi were looking for the king, following the star that showed them he had come. Today, as followers of the King, we no longer ask, “Where is he?” But instead, we ask, "Do you know him?"

A couple of weeks back, I got a phone call from another brother in our ministry who asked if I would help with a crisis. There was a woman he knew in an abusive relationship who needed help getting out of her house. So, I went and helped her move. She was in search of a savior.

That very same day, I went to get coffee and struck up a conversation with the lady behind the counter. I listened to her talk about the stress of school, work, and family life. She was in search of a savior.

A couple of hours later, we got a call at the LIGHT House. The lady on the other end was distraught about her son’s drinking and thought we could help. We told her about Celebrate Recovery and prayed with her. She, too, was in search of a savior.

In this one day, I encountered three people in need of a savior. In this one day, we were able to point three people to the Savior by showing love to our neighbors, and by listening and sharing our hope in Him. On this day, we were able to say the King has come. "Do you know him?"

Lord God, we thank you for coming as a humble baby. We thank you for the opportunities to point people to you. It is for your glory, and it is because of you, we get to do this work. Most of all, we thank you for the forgiveness you grant to us through your death on the cross and your resurrection. In Jesus' name, Amen.
