TRUTH: what the world needs - Week 1 (Monday Morning Devotions)

As we welcome in a new year, let us focus on God’s Word and HIS TRUTH, dedicating this year to the Lord.

What the world needs now - is not love, in my humble opinion, but Truth. Truth with a capital 'T'. Yes, what the world needs now is Truth.

The word 'truth' is under assault today. Many have the opinion that truth is at best 'relative,' and at worst 'non-existent.' When I refer to Truth, I am speaking of transcendent Truth. Truth that comes down from above, coming down from our Creator.

I am not speaking of transient truth. Transient truth is what mankind comes to think and observe as true. However, over time, transient truth, through advances in technology, may be proven untrue. I will offer one example: for decades, Pluto was considered a planet. Now it is not.

So you might be wondering where can one find Transcendent Truth? It is found in the Sacred Word of God. Listen and learn from Paul's letter to the saints, the believers in Jesus at Rome:

Indeed, [the] wrath of God is being revealed from heaven upon every ungodliness and unrighteousness of people who suppress the truth in unrighteousness because that which is known about God is visible among them; for God made it visible to them. You see, from [the] creation of the universe his invisible qualities, both his eternal power and divinity, are clearly seen, being perceived in the things made with the result that they are without defense. Because although they had know God, they did not glorify [him] as God or give thanks, but they became worthless in their reasoning and their senseless heart was darkened.

While assuring that they were wise, they became foolish and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for a likeness of an image of a corruptible person and of birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them over in the desires of their hearts into impurity, [namely,] to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves.

Such ones exchanged the truth of God for the life; they both worshipped and served the created thing instead of the one who created, who is blessed into the ages, amen! [Romans 1:18-25]

Jesus prayed for us - his followers - with these words to His heavenly Father:

“I am coming to you now . . . I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.”

In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
